1. Who we are
Hunters Countryside ("Hunters Countryside", "we", "us", "our") operates hunterscountryside.co.uk, a discovery platform for farm shops, garden centres, country pubs, countryside walks and other rural places across Britain. Hunters Countryside is a trading name of Hunters Country Press Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 15919393, with its registered office at 3 Grosvenor House, 3 Chapel Street, Congleton, Cheshire, CW12 4AB.
We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation ("UK GDPR") and the Data Protection Act 2018. For any question about this policy or our handling of your data, contact hello@hunterscountryside.co.uk.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to the Hunters Countryside website. The website is a public discovery platform: you can browse it freely without creating an account, and we do not take payments or offer subscriptions through it. The only points at which you provide personal data to us are our early-access waitlist and our enquiry form.
3. The personal data we collect
Waitlist
When you join the early-access waitlist we collect your name, your email address and the date and time of your sign-up.
Enquiries
When you contact us through the enquiry form or by email we collect your name, your email address and the content of your message.
Technical data
Like almost every website, our hosting infrastructure records standard server logs when pages are requested. These may include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, and are used solely to serve the website and keep it secure. We do not run analytics or advertising trackers on the website. For details of the limited information stored on your own device, see our Cookie Policy.
4. How we use your data, and our lawful bases
Under the UK GDPR we process personal data as follows:
- Managing the waitlist and sending you updates — your name, email address and sign-up details, used to hold your place on the waitlist and to send you early-access news and countryside dispatches. Lawful basis: consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
- Responding to enquiries — your name, email address and message content, used to answer you and to keep a record of our correspondence. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (responding to people who contact us).
- Operating and securing the website — technical log data, used to deliver pages, prevent abuse and diagnose faults. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running a safe, reliable service).
- Complying with the law — any data we are required to retain or disclose by law. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have assessed that the processing is necessary and proportionate and does not override your rights and freedoms. We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it to anyone.
5. Waitlist and marketing communications
If you join the waitlist you will receive emails about early access, launch news and countryside content. Every such email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@hunterscountryside.co.uk; we will stop sending you marketing communications promptly and in any event within the period required by law.
6. Who we share your data with
We share personal data only with the service providers who help us run the website, and only to the extent necessary for them to do so:
- Formspree, Inc. — securely receives and stores waitlist sign-ups and enquiry form submissions on our behalf.
- Vercel, Inc. — hosts and serves the website, and in doing so processes standard request logs.
- Google LLC — supplies the typefaces used on the website via Google Fonts; your browser requests these files directly from Google's servers.
Each provider processes data under a written agreement that meets the requirements of the UK GDPR. We may also disclose personal data where required by law, court order or a competent authority, or as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your data.
7. International transfers
Some of the providers listed above are based in, or operate infrastructure in, the United States and other countries outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure an appropriate safeguard is in place — such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses — so that your data receives an equivalent standard of protection.
8. How long we keep your data
- Waitlist data is kept while the waitlist is open and for as long as you remain subscribed to our communications. If you unsubscribe, we remove you from our mailing list and delete your details within a reasonable period thereafter.
- Enquiry correspondence is kept for up to 24 months after our last exchange, so that we can refer back to it if you contact us again, and is then deleted.
- Technical logs are retained by our hosting provider for short, rolling periods in line with its standard practice.
We may retain data for longer where the law requires it or where it is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. You can ask us to delete your data at any time (see section 10).
9. How we protect your data
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, loss and misuse. The website is served exclusively over HTTPS, form submissions are encrypted in transit, access to stored submissions is restricted, and we use established, reputable providers for hosting and form processing. No system can be guaranteed absolutely secure, but we review our measures regularly and will notify you and the Information Commissioner's Office where the law requires it if a breach affecting your data occurs.
10. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten");
- Restrict our processing of your data in certain circumstances;
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
- Data portability — receive the data you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@hunterscountryside.co.uk. We will respond within one month, as required by the UK GDPR. Exercising your rights is free of charge.
If you are dissatisfied with how we have handled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would, however, welcome the chance to resolve your concern directly first.
11. Children
The website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as our service develops — for example, if we launch features that involve new kinds of data processing. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised "last updated" date, and where appropriate we will notify waitlist subscribers by email.
